David’s path from homelessness to housing
Last winter, David was homeless, sleeping outside in parks around Santa Rosa, and trying to keep warm with temperatures as low as 27º.
David graduated from high school with plans to apply for college and major in electrical engineering.
Becoming homeless at 18 wasn’t in his plan, but David maintained his positive outlook, worked hard, and held on to his dreams. Finding a place to live, and keeping a job while homeless was one of the biggest challenges David faced. After applying for housing with SAY, it took months before a unit became vacant.
Today, David has an apartment with SAY, a part time job, and volunteers at Community Bikes to strengthen his engineering skills. He plans to enroll in school this year and dreams of transferring to Cal Poly, UCLA or UC Davis after finishing his general ed units.
