Oct. 23 Fire Update

October 23, 2017

Dear SAY Friends, Supporters and Partners

We want to express our incredible gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and kindness that has been shown to all of us at Social Advocates for Youth. Our hearts remain with all those who have faced loss and displacement including members of the SAY staff, our board and volunteer family.

At SAY, we know the power a safe home and a supportive community can have on leading a stable and independent life. For many of our youth, their reality did not include those things before the fires. Now, so many more find themselves in similar positions.

We are happy to report that SAY’s programs and services have resumed operations!

HOUSING: All residents have safely moved back into their homes and gone back to the work of rebuilding their lives. Our Street Outreach Team continues to have a presence at the Local Assistance Center, letting youth know that SAY is open and available to support their needs.

Youth ages 18-24 seeking housing must complete the Housing Interest Form on our website: www.saysc.org/housing.

Our Youth Crisis Line remains open at (888) 729-0012.

CAREER SERVICES: The Career Hub, located at the Dream Center is open to help youth navigate EDD for unemployment and lost wages, learn about new job opportunities, sign up for school, and take the food handler’s certificate online! Youth may drop-in anytime between 10:00am-4:00pm Monday through Thursday.

COUNSELING: SAY is offering a free 6-week counseling group for children, youth and families impacted by the fires. Additionally, our Counseling Clinic is open and accepting new Medi-Cal patients. Clients interested in our free groups and/or clinic are encouraged to call and leave a message any time of day at our Counseling Intake line at 707-544-3299 X237.

Our need for your support is higher than it’s ever been. We need more meal train volunteers. We need more in-kind donations. And, we need your financial support for our critical housing and mental health services.  To learn about how you can make a difference for our youth and our community please visit: www.saysc.org/donate.

Thank you for continuing to be in this work together and loving our youth as much as we do.
