Meet the Coursey Family
SAY Soirée is officially 30 days away! This year, SAY’s annual spring fundraiser will take place in downtown Santa Rosa, within the newly reunified Courthouse Square. During this sophisticated, black-tie event guests will hear the stories of our youth and the power of SAY’s housing, counseling and career services. These services would not be possible without our dedicated supporters – caring adults in the community that step in and truly make an impact on the lives of young people who are struggling.
Recently, Mayor Chris Coursey and his son, Alex shared a story with us about a time when their family was struggling and SAY helped support them through some very difficult moments. Watch the video above or click here.
One night many years ago, then Press Democrat reporter Chris Coursey discovered his young son had run away from home. Chris didn’t know where he was, or even if he was alive. Then, he got a call from Social Advocates for Youth’s Coffee House Teen Shelter letting him know Alex was safe. Now, more 15 years later, Chris is the Mayor of Santa Rosa and Alex is an English teacher at Technology Middle School in Rohnert Park. Today, they reflect on the enduring power of caring adults in young peoples lives during times of struggles.
