Northwestern Mutual honors youth advocate Sharon Zimmerman with $15,000 grant to Social Advocates for Youth
Since 2009, Sharon Zimmerman has been an incredible addition to the SAY Family. As a board member, volunteer, and youth advocate, Sharon has become an integral part of SAY’s history. It is our honor to congratulate Sharon on her newest title: 2018 Northwestern Mutual Community Service Award Winner.
Sharon, a wealth management advisor at Northwestern Mutual in Santa Rosa, has been selected as a recipient to honor her remarkable volunteerism with SAY. For more than 20 years, Northwestern Mutual has honored financial advisors who are dedicated to outstanding volunteer service with grants to benefit their local nonprofits of choice.
On May 16, Northwestern Mutual Foundation presented SAY with a $15,000 grant in honor of Sharon’s achievement. Sharon presented the grant during the Big Thank You event, an opportunity to celebrate and recognize staff, volunteers, and youth. The grant funds will provide unrestricted dollars to serve youth where they need it the most.
During her time with us, Sharon has been involved directly in youth lives through mentorship, as well as career and educational support. As a board member, Sharon was also instrumental in the development of our SAY Dream Center campus, which houses more than 60 formerly homeless youth and provides access to onsite counseling.
Whenever and wherever our youth need her, Sharon can be counted on to organize a meal train, recruit volunteers, or strategize a fundraising plan. Even as Sharon and her family lost their home to the recent California wildfires, she continues to put our youth and mission first.
We are honored to have Sharon in our SAY Family, and as a member of our Sonoma County community. It is youth advocates like Sharon and organizations like Northwestern Mutual that keep our mission going. We look forward to continuing working with Sharon to provide support, opportunities, and hope to Sonoma County youth and families.
