Social Advocates for Youth (SAY) chosen as Nonprofit of the Year

Social Advocates for Youth (SAY) is proud to announce that we have been selected as a 2019 California Nonprofit of the Year by 4th District Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry!

Each year, California legislators are invited to choose a Nonprofit of the Year from their district and come together to celebrate at the California Nonprofits Day Luncheon. Since the first California Nonprofits Day in 2016 more than 350 nonprofits have been honored by their Assemblymembers and Senators.

Last week, several SAY staff members traveled to Sacramento for the luncheon to celebrate this incredible recognition! Our staff members  in attendance included Katrina Thurman, SAY CEO; Troy Niday, incoming SAY Board President; Serene Cooper, Director of Career Services; Danny Chaparro, Bilingual Case Manager; and Shelby Harris, Communications and Marketing Manager. They were joined by more than 100 state senators and assemblymembers and over 500 legislators and nonprofits staff, board members, and volunteers.

This year, to mark the 4th Annual California Nonprofits Day, Assemblymember Monique Limon, Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Nonprofits, introduced a resolution in the Assembly officially declaring June 5, 2019, California Nonprofits Day. Assemblymember Limón opened the luncheon by highlighting the great work nonprofits from all sectors – arts, environment, human services, animal welfare and more – are doing to support and advocate for their communities.

Prior to the luncheon, our staff had the opportunity to meet with Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry’s staff and discuss SAY’s work in the community. It is truly an honor for SAY to be recognized for being of service to Sonoma County youth as they seek stability, confidence, and direction for a brighter future. A full list of the honorees and the program from the day can be downloaded here.
