Current Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteer opportunities are designed to engage community members in activities which make a significant impact on the at-risk youth we serve; and enable big-hearted folks like you to donate your valuable time and talent!

Shelter Support

Support Staff at SAY Shelters
Shelter staff at the SAY Finley Dream Center and the Coffee House Teen Shelter need help handing out supplies to drop-in clients, cooking and serving meals, cleaning, greeting and socializing with clients, and other tasks as assigned. Shift times vary, but are between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. during weekdays. We prefer volunteers work at least one shift per week with a minimum three-month commitment. Email Amanda DeFoe at amanda.defoe@saysc.org.

Hungry Teens Need Your Help!

Our first Meal Train was such a success that we’re expanding it to shelter residents at the SAY Finely Dream Center! We need community members to prepare and deliver dinners for 15 people.

Sign up for the full calendar of meals here: https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/z99lod

The meals should be cooked but can be reheated if necessary. If you’re also able to drop off something light for the next day’s breakfast (granola bars, fruit, bagels, etc.), that would be greatly appreciated! The food should be delivered in containers you don’t need returned. We will provide plates and utensils.

Please drop off between 4pm and 5pm at the front desk of the SAY Finely Dream Center. Staff will transport food to the shelter. (PLEASE NOTE: the main entrance courtyard faces Hoen Avenue and is on the opposite side of the building from the administration entrance facing Summerfield Road.)

*Please fill out the food safety agreement once you sign up*

Help Us Make PB&J Sandwiches
Youth in our career services programs are hard at work maintaining local trails and waterways. This hard work builds appetites and we like to provide youth with sandwiches for lunches. While our regular volunteer is out, we’re looking for someone to help us make sandwiches on these dates: Monday, July 17; Wednesday, July 19; Monday, July 31; Wednesday, Aug. 2. Shifts happen at your convenience during business hours and take about 30 minutes. This is a great opportunity for students or teens on summer break! Email Cameron Murdock at cameron.murdock@saysc.org.

Skills-based Volunteering

SAY depends upon skill-based volunteers to help get the behind the scenes work done to support our direct service programs. If you have skills to share and/or want to fine tune others, we would love to hear from you!

Ongoing Data Entry
There’s so much data, and we’d love your help keeping organized! This volunteer will receive, review, and enter data into the Raiser’s Edge database and “clean up” data as requested. We’re asking this volunteer to commit 4 to 8 hours per week for 1 to 2 days per week during office hours for at least 6 months. Email Justin Dawes at justin.dawes@saysc.org for more information.

Volunteer at the Dream Center Reception Desk
The SAY Volunteer Receptionist will provide world-class customer service during every interaction, including answering incoming calls, directing callers and visitors to appropriate personnel, and completing other tasks as assigned. The commitment is 7–8 hours per day, 1–2 days per week, for a minimum of 6 months. Contact Justin Dawes at justin.dawes@saysc.org.

Assist with Youth Employment Payroll
The SAY Careers department employs youth year-round to work in the community. Payroll happens twice per month. We are looking for volunteers who can assist with this process and come in for two 4-hour shifts each month, with a commitment of at least six months. Contact Cameron Murdock at cameron.murdock@saysc.org.

Counseling Department Admin Assistant
Based out of the SAY Finley Dream Center campus, the Counseling admin assistant provides administrative support for the entire department. Duties include data entry, data reporting, checking clients’ Medi-Cal status, reception services, basic office upkeep, and other tasks. There is a preference for one person to volunteer 20–30 hours per week during business hours, but the position could also be split between two people. There is a minimum commitment of 6 months. Email Cameron Murdock at cameron.murdock@saysc.org.
