Current Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteer opportunities are designed to engage community members in activities which make a significant impact on the at-risk youth we serve; and enable big-hearted folks like you to donate your valuable time and talent!

Shelter Support

Coffee House Teen Shelter

Coffee House Teen Shelter staff need help with cooking and serving meals, cleaning, yard work, organizing donations, and transporting youth and food to our emergency shelter. Shifts are available 4:30pm-7:00p.m. during weekdays. We prefer volunteers work at least one shift per week.

Dream Center Short Term Shelter

Dream Center Short Term Shelter staff need help with cooking and serving meals, cleaning, organizing the donation closet, doing laundry, greeting clients, and other possible tasks. Shifts are available each day of the week 7–10 a.m. and 5–7:30 p.m. We prefer volunteers work at least one shift per week.

Hungry Teens Need Your Help!

Our first Meal Train was such a success that we’re expanding it to shelter residents at the SAY Finely Dream Center! We need community members to prepare and deliver dinners for 15 people.

Sign up for the full calendar of meals here: https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/z99lod

The meals should be cooked but can be reheated if necessary. If you’re also able to drop off something light for the next day’s breakfast (granola bars, fruit, bagels, etc.), that would be greatly appreciated! The food should be delivered in containers you don’t need returned. We will provide plates and utensils.

Please drop off between 4pm and 5pm at the front desk of the SAY Finely Dream Center. Staff will transport food to the shelter. (PLEASE NOTE: the main entrance courtyard faces Hoen Avenue and is on the opposite side of the building from the administration entrance facing Summerfield Road.)

*Please fill out the food safety agreement once you sign up*

Help Us Make PB&J Sandwiches
Youth in our career services programs are hard at work maintaining local trails and waterways. This hard work builds appetites and we like to provide youth with sandwiches they can take with them. We’re looking for volunteers to come in every Monday and Wednesday during business hours to make some sandwiches. This is a great opportunity for students or teens on summer break! Email Cameron Murdock at cameron.murdock@saysc.org.

Skills-based Volunteering

SAY depends upon skill-based volunteers to help get the behind the scenes work done to support our direct service programs. If you have skills to share and/or want to fine tune others, we would love to hear from you!

Do you know a nurse?
We need a Certified Laser Technician/RN to volunteer for our Clean Slate Tattoo Removal Program. The program provides laser removal sessions for youth ages 14–24 on the third Monday of each month from 5 to 9 p.m. Please fill out an application online to begin the process!

Ongoing Data Entry
There’s so much data, and we’d love your help keeping organized! This volunteer will receive, review, and enter data into the Raiser’s Edge database and “clean up” data as requested. We’re asking this volunteer to commit 4 to 8 hours per week for 1 to 2 days per week during office hours for at least 6 months. Email Justin Dawes at justin.dawes@saysc.org for more information.
