For the first time ever, the story of Social Advocates for Youth will be told in downtown Santa Rosa, within the newly reunified Courthouse Square.
SAY Soirée will deliver guests a sophisticated, black-tie experience highlighting Sonoma County’s full bounty of flavors, right within the heart of downtown Santa Rosa on Saturday, April 14, 2018. This outdoor evening event will bring guests together to hear the stories of our youth and the power of SAY’s housing, counseling and career services. No matter how youth access SAY’s continuum of services, our goal is to create a home for the youth we serve; a place a safety, support, and care.
What defines a home?
To Alex, it means, “a place where someone cares enough to pay attention and interact with me on a daily basis. A place where people care if I hurt myself.” Growing up in the foster care system, Alex often felt isolated and alone. At a young age she started cutting herself as a way to process overwhelming feelings she didn’t know how to express.
After moving into the SAY Finley Dream Center, Alex worked with a case manager and therapist to learn healthy coping skills that allow her to communicate without self-harming. With the help of SAY staff Alex learned that she is not alone in her pain. Now when she comes home to the Dream Center every day after working and going to SRJC, she feels empowered and safe. And when life gets tough, Alex knows she has a safe place to call home filled with people who care.
Your support at SAY Soirée will allow us to continue providing a safe home and caring adults for kids like Alex who are struggling with life-threatening challenges.
